Axis IV (electronics)

Audio sample (.mp3) (also Period Piece, ver. E -- 4' to 5')

Program Notes:

Axis IV is a two-channel electronic piece modeled on an instrumental piece written for flute, oboe, clarinet, 'cello, and percussion. That composition is dedicated to Paul and Wilma Zonn (clarinet and oboe) who premiered the piece along with members of the University of Buffalo New Music Ensemble. The instrumental Axis is in three movements and employs serial procedures in regard to pitch choices. Axis IV is not simply a reworking, but a total recomposition of the original material. Gestures are shared by the two and attemps are made to simulate timbres. The composition also is influenced by another electronic piece, Period Piece.
