Program Notes:

The electronics were conceived using two separate playback systems. For the first two segments, the front speaker system is used alone. For the third segment, the rear speaker system provide the 3rd and 4th sound channels. The electronic segments were created on a Moog III synthesizer and involves extensive tape manipulation. Some of the manipulated analog sounds were sampled and digitally altered using a Roland S-550 and an Emulator III. The sounds were mastered on an eight-channel analog tape deck. The electronic segments provides a sonic foil for the gigantic tuba sounds and creates a dichotomy between huge aural and visual experiences contrasted with the sometimes delicate pitches heard in the electronics. The title was inspired by a film concerning supernatural creatures and the result of composing the piece very early in the morning in a dark Victorian building.
